Mouse Monoclonal Antibody

MA1-2000 detects alpha catenin from human samples. MA1-2000 has been successfully used in Western blot procedures. By Western blot, this antibody detects an ~102 kDa protein representing alpha catenin from scc-1 cell extract. In Western blot, this antibody did not cross-react with mouse samples. MA1-2000 can also be used in immunoprecipitation and immunofluorescence procedures. The MA1-2000 immunogen is a 90 kDa MBP/alpha catenin fusion protein purified via an amylose column.

Alpha catenin is a member of the b-catenin family of cytosolic proteins. Alpha catenin interacts with N-cadherin and b-catenin on the cytosolic side of adherins junctions to mediate the interaction with the actin cytoskeleton. Alpha catenin is a homodimer in solution, but dissociates to form a 1:1 heterodimer with b-catenin in order to interact with cadherins. It also regulates morphological plasticity of synapses and cerebellar and hippocampal lamination during development. Alpha catenin also functions in the control of the startle modulation.
