Description
Reacts with the F11 receptor (also known as JAM-1), an integral membrane protein duplex of 32-35kDa expressed on platelets, leukocytes, red blood cells, endothelial cells, epithelial cells, and various cell lines. The F11R is homologous with the murine protein called Junctional Adhesion Molecule (JAM), a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. Monoclonal antibody (mAb) F11 is a stimulatory antibody, namely, the binding of F11mAb to F11R induces morphological changes, granular secretion, and aggregation in human platelets that are
mediated by two pathways. Antibody-induced platelet aggregation and granule secretion are dependent on both molecules of FcγRII and GPIIb/IIIa integrin, and that may play a role in some thrombocytopenias. F11R-mediated platelet adhesion and aggregation are not dependent on FcγRII or GPIIb/IIIa and that may play a role in normal platelet physiological processes.
