Fodrin is a spectrin-like cytoskeletal protein found in non-erythroid cells and is comprised of two subunits, α and β (∽240kDa and ∽235kDa, respectively). It mediates the association of actin filaments with the plasma membrane and may thus be involved in maintenance of cell shape and stabilization of membrane structure. Fodrin's susceptibility to tyrosine phosphorylation and its interaction with the lymphocyte transmembrane protein tyrosine phosphatase CD45 suggest that it plays an important role in signal transduction during lymphocyte activation.
