Glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK-3) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that plays a role in the regulation of cell survival and in the Wnt signaling pathway. Its activity can be inhibited by Akt-mediated phosphorylation at Ser21 in GSK-3α and Ser9 in GSK-3β. GSK-3 is also known to phosphorylate the six isoforms of Tau, indicating a link to Alzheimer's disease.
