PA1-7219 detects the HIV gp41. This antibody does not cross-react with human T or B cells. PA1-7219 has been successfully used in Western blot procedures. The PA1-7219 immunogen is recombinant (P. Pastoris) ectodomain of gp41 (glycosylated).

Gp41 is a glycoprotein, that along with gp120 is integral to the process by which HIV enters the cell. Gp41 is primarily located within the viral envelope, however when gp120 binds to a CD4 receptor, gp120 changes its conformation, causing gp41 to become.
