Hsp90 (heat shock protein 90) is a primarily cytoplasmic protein which exists in dimeric form. Hsp90 binds several cellular proteins such as retrovirus kinases (pp60v-src), steroid receptors, heme-regulated protein kinase, actin, and tubulin. Although Hsp90 expression is induced by stress, and thus may be an indicator of cell stress, its constitutive level may be up to 1-2% of the total cellular protein.
