Description
The activator protein transcription factor (AP-1) was identified as a protein that recognizes specific sequences in the cis-control regions of the SV40 virus and the human metallothionein IIA gene. AP-1 is composed of protein products of two different gene families. The AP-1 transcription factor is either a homodimer of Jun proteins or a heterodimer of Jun and Fos proteins. The transcriptional activity of Jun is enhanced by phosphorylation in its activation domain at Ser63 and Ser73. Phosphorylation at both sites is necessary for stimulating the activating function of Jun. Jun is phosphorylated by JNK protein kinases that are activated by the same signals that potentiate Jun activity.
This antibody is routinely tested by western blot analysis. Other applications were tested at BD Biosciences Pharmingen during antibody development only or reported in the literature.
