GSK-3α contains a phosphate on tyrosine 279, and GSK-3β contains a phosphate on tyrosine 216. GSK is a protein serine kinase involved in the control of regulatory proteins like glycogen synthase and the transcription factor c-Jun. It has also been associated with the regulation of the microtubule-binding protein Tau, and may be involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's Disease.
