Specifically detects PhosphoDetect™ p53 (pSer15) Clone: in Human, Mouse, Rat samples, and it is validated for Immunoprecipitation

p53 tumor suppressor proteins play a key role in cellular defense against DNA damaging agents. p53 is phosphorylated at multiple sitesin vivo and by several different protein kinasesin vitro. DNA damage results in the phosphorylation of p53 at Ser15, leading to the reduced interactions of p53 with its negative regulator, the oncoprotein MDM2. p53 can be phosphorylated by ATM, by ATR, and by the DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) at Ser15. This impairs the ability of MDM2 to bind p53 and promotes both the accumulation and functional activation of p53 in response to DNA damage.
