Human Tumor Necrosis Factorα (TNF-α, cachectin) is a cytokine, produced by variety of cell types, that is involved in mediation of the inflammatory response, resistance to infection, and resistance to tumor growth. Human and mouse TNF-α are approximately 79% homologous at the amino acid level and exhibit cross-species reactivity. This antibody recognizes both recombinant and natural human TNF-α and exhibits some (∽30%) cross-reactivity with mouse TNF-α. It exhibits only minor (<1%) cross-reactivity with human TNF-β (lymphotoxin).
