Description
Reacts with von Willebrand Factor (vWF), a multimeric plasma glycoprotein synthesized by endothelial cells and megakaryocytes. In plasma, vWF circulates as multimers which range from dimers of about 500kDa to multimers of 20000kDa. It functions as a carrier for Factor VIII and is a mediator of initial platelet adhesion to subendothelium and platelet-platelet interaction. Platelets bind to vWF through the platelet GPIb/IX (CD42b/CD42a) and GPIIb/IIIa (CD41/CD61) complexes This antibody is effective in detecting vWF by ELISA, with no evidence of cross reactivity with fibronectin or fibrinogen.
