Invitrogen™ CD71 (Transferrin Receptor) Monoclonal Antibody (MRQ-48), eBioscience™
Mouse Monoclonal Antibody
Supplier: Invitrogen™ 14071893

Description
Description: The MRQ-48 monoclonal antibody recognizes human CD71, also known as the transferrin receptor. CD71 exists as a homodimer on the cell surface and is essential for cellular growth. CD71 is expressed on placental syncytiotrophoblasts, endocrine pancreas, hepatocytes, myocytes, basal keratinocytes, spermatocytes, and erythroid precursors. CD71 also is expressed by immature proliferating cells, at low levels on resting mature lymphocytes, and upregulated after antigen or mitogen stimulation of T and B cells. CD71 expression is used to aid in the identification of erythroid leukemia, benign erythroid proliferative disorders, and myelodysplastic syndrome. Applications Reported: This MRQ-48 antibody has been reported for use in immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections, microscopy, and immunohistochemical staining. Applications Tested: This MRQ-48 antibody has been tested by immunohistochemistry of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded human tissue using low pH antigen retrieval. This antibody can be used at less than or equal to 1:100. It is recommended that the antibody be carefully titrated for optimal performance in the assay of interest. Purity: Greater than 90%, as determined by SDS-PAGE. Aggregation: Less than 10%, as determined by HPLC. Filtration: 0.2 μm post-manufacturing filtered.
Cellular uptake of iron occurs via receptor-mediated endocytosis of ligand-occupied transferrin receptor into specialized endosomes. Endosomal acidification leads to iron release. The apotransferrin-receptor complex is then recycled to the cell surface with a return to neutral pH and the concomitant loss of affinity of apotransferrin for its receptor. Transferrin receptor is necessary for development of erythrocytes and the nervous system. Serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) is used as a means of detecting erythropoietin (EPO) misuse by athletes and as a diagnostic test for anemias resulting from a number of conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy, irritable bowel syndrome and in HIV patients.
