Nuclear export mediator factor, NEMF, plays a role in nuclear export. It is expressed in brain, heart, liver, lung, spleen, and skeletal muscle tissue, and expressed at lower levels in stomach and testis. It interacts (via its N-terminus) with XPO1; the N-terminal domain contains a nuclear export signal and the C-terminal domain may interact with cargo proteins. This protein is active in normal lung tissue but is inactive in several lung cancer cell lines.
