DICER1 is a ribonuclease that has been extensively shown to be related to cancer. Small interfering RNAs are generated through DICER, and seem to play important roles in mitosis in normal cells and oncogenesis in mutated cells. DICER1 mutations are associated with blastoma, breast cancer, adenocarcinoma, and pancreatitis. In vision and hearing, DICER1 has been implicated in serious microRNA induced malformations of critical sensory cells. DICER1 is important in myelination and other nervous system protections. Finally, DICER1 is related to cardiovascular diseases, since microRNAs are aberrantly expressed in some pathological conditions.Specifications
