Mouse Monoclonal Antibody

SFL23.6 is directed against an erythroid cell surface antigen, which is not glycophorin A. It shows a well-defined reactivity with cells of the erythroid lineage at all stages of maturation in the peripheral blood, bone marrow, and fetal liver. Non-erythroid lineages are negative by flow cytometry. SFL23.6 is positive on erythroleukemias and can be used to distinguish bone marrow nucleated erythroid precursors from malignant cells in bone marrow specimens.

Erythrocytes, commonly known as red blood cells, are the primary cellular component responsible for oxygen transport within the blood. Originating from hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow, these cells undergo a maturation process called erythropoiesis, which necessitates key nutrients such as iron, vitamin B12, and folate. Structurally, erythrocytes have a biconcave disc shape, enhancing their surface area for gas exchange. Beyond their oxygen-carrying role, erythrocytes possess immune functions, including antigen presentation and pathogen binding, contributing to the innate immune system. Their membrane surface proteins and intracellular substances play pivotal roles in immuno-regulation, varying significantly among different disease states.
