Description

Polyene antibiotic; inhibits formation of pathological isoform of prion protein

Filipin III is a polyene antibiotic. Binds sterols in fungal membranes. Also inhibits formation of the pathological form of prion protein (PrP-res) from the normal membrane-bound (PrP-sen) form. Also fluorescent cholesterol stain.
