The G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily is comprised of an estimated 600-1,000 members and is the largest known class of molecular targets with proven therapeutic value. GPR17 is an orphan G protein-coupled receptor involved in orchestration of oligodendrocyte differentiation and myelination in the central nervous system. GPR17 is expressed in brain, kidney, heart and umbilical vein endothelial cells. GPR17 has dual specificity for uracil nucleotides and cysteinyl leukotrienes and signals through G(i) and inhibition of adenylyl cyclase. May mediate brain damage by nucleotides and cysteinyl leukotrienes following ischemia.Specifications
