It is derived from the root of the horseradish plant and catalyzes the oxidation of a wide range of substrates in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. HRP is widely used as a detection enzyme in immunoassays, such as ELISAs and Western blots, due to its high sensitivity and stability. It can also be used as a tracer in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) and as a labeling agent in fluorescent microscopy.
