Description
The Fluorokine™ E Human Active MMP-9 Florescent Assay combines the specificity of a monoclonal antibody that captures all three MMP-9 forms (92, 82, and 65 kDa) but not other MMPs and the sensitivity of fluorescence. The assay is designed to measure the levels of endogenous human active MMP-9 in cell culture supernates, serum, plasma, and urine and the MMP-9 in these samples that can be activated by APMA during the assay procedure. The determined MMP-9 activity may reflect the balance of MMP-9 and its inhibitor TIMPs. Therefore, it is recommended that the levels of TIMPs be determined in order to interpret the results properly. For example, TIMP-1 inhibits the activity of MMP-9 through binding of the N-terminal domain of the TIMP-1 to the active site of MMP-9. In addition, TIMP-1 also binds to pro-MMP-9 through the interaction between the C-terminal domains of both proteins .
