Mouse Monoclonal Antibody

Description: The monoclonal antibody C1 recognizes human and mouse Musashi-2 (Msi2), a highly conserved RNA-binding protein. Musashi-2 contains two RNA-recognition domains and is expressed as one of two isoforms of 36 and 37 kDa. Musashi 2 with its family member Musashi-1, are expressed at high levels in stem and tumor cells. During neural development, Musashi-2 is expressed in progenitor cells in the ventricular and subventricular zones, while postnatally, Musashi-2 expression is limited to multiple subsets of neurons and astrocytes in addition to adult stem cell populations. Functionally, Musashi-2 associates with Sox2 and is required for self-renewal of embryonic stem cells. Much like its role in maintaining stemness in neural progenitors, Musashi-2 is expressed in hematopoetic stem cells and plays a similar role in maintaining self-renewal. Musashi-2 has been found to be overexpressed in human myeloid leukemia and the levels of expression correlate with decreased survival. Musashi-2 may serve as a prognostic marker for acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Applications Reported: This C1 antibody has been reported for use in western blotting, immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections, and immunocytochemistry. Applications Tested: This C1 antibody has been tested immunohistochemistry on human FFPE tissue using high or low pH antigen retrieval at less than or equal to 10 μg/mL. The C1 antibody has also been tested by western blot on reduc...

Msi2 (musashi homolog 2), also known as MSI2H, is a 328 amino acid protein that localizes to the cytoplasm and contains two RRM (RNA recognition motif) domains. Expressed ubiquitously at low levels, Msi2 functions as an RNA binding protein that, by regulating the expression of target mRNAs, is thought to play a role in the proliferation and maintenance of stem cells within the central nervous system. Msi2 is subject to posttranslational phosphorylation and is upregulated in response to brain injury, suggesting a role in healing and brain tissue regeneration. Chromosomal aberrations involving the Msi2 gene are associated with the progression of chronic myeloid leukemia. Multiple isoforms of Msi2 exist due to alternative splicing events.Tissue specificity: Ubiquitous; detected at low levels.
