Rabbit Polyclonal Antibody

Store product as a concentrated solution. Centrifuge briefly prior to opening the vial.

Myosin proteins are motor proteins critical for muscle contraction in both skeletal and smooth muscle. They convert chemical energy from ATP hydrolysis into mechanical energy, generating force and movement along actin filaments. In skeletal muscle, myosin molecules are part of the contractile apparatus, where they form thick filaments that interact with actin thin filaments to produce contraction. Myosin heavy chain (MyHC) isoforms are key determinants of muscle fiber types, contributing to the diversity in muscle function and specialization. Skeletal muscle fibers can express different MyHC isoforms, resulting in fibers with varying speed and endurance characteristics. Smooth muscle myosin, in contrast, is involved in the involuntary contractions of smooth muscle tissues found in the walls of hollow organs, such as the intestines and blood vessels. Smooth muscle myosin's regulatory mechanisms differ significantly from skeletal muscle, involving phosphorylation of the myosin light chain to initiate contraction.
