The PF4V1 (Platelet Factor 4 Variant 1) gene, located on chromosome 4q12, encodes a protein that is a member of the CXC chemokine family, sharing significant homology with platelet factor 4 (PF4/CXCL4). PF4V1 is primarily expressed in megakaryocytes and platelets, playing a role in modulating coagulation and inflammatory responses. The protein has chemotactic activity, attracting immune cells to sites of injury or inflammation. Furthermore, PF4V1 can bind to heparin, influencing the anticoagulant activity of heparin and potentially impacting hemostasis and thrombosis. Research suggests that variations in the expression or function of PF4V1 might contribute to different pathological conditions, including cardiovascular disease and inflammatory disorders.
