Used to increase the biosynthesis of Heme and the repair and creation of iron-sulfur clusters by delivering Fe(2+) to proteins involved in these pathways

  • PMA (Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate) activates protein kinase C (PKC) and is a known TPA (tumor promoting agent)
  • PMA has shown chromosome-breaking (clastogenic) activity
  • Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) has been shown to induce the activity of PLD1 (phospholipase D1)
  • PMA is a tumor promoter, as seen with protein kinase C (PKC) signaling pathway associated with: gene transcription, cell growth, cell differentiation, programmed cell death, immune pathway, receptor desensitization
