Purine is a nucleotide base for proteomics research. It is also a significant component of many biomolecules such as adenine triphosphate, guanine triphosphate, cyclic adenosine monophosphate, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide and coenzyme. Further, it is useful in medicinal chemistry as a building block.
