Thermo Scientific™ Anaerobic PV (Paromomycin, Vancomycin) Blood Agar (CDC Formulation)
Description
Isolate anaerobic gram-negative, non-spore forming bacilli with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Anaerobic paromomycin, vancomycin (PV) Blood Agar [The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) formulation].
Formulated by V.R. Dowell and T.M Hawkins at the CDC in Atlanta Georgia1, Anaerobic Blood Agar (CDC) supports the growth and typical pigmentation of fastidious, slow-growing and other clinically important anaerobes.
Isolate fastidious, obligately anaerobic non-spore forming gram-negative bacilli using the solid medium Thermo Scientific Remel Anaerobic KV Blood Agar (CDC formulation) with paromomycin and vancomycin.
- Selective: Paromomycin and vancomycin antibiotics inhibit facultative and aerobic gram-negative rods2.
- Ready-to-use: Convenience of prepared media.
Anaerobic Blood Agar (CDC) base contains peptones that supply nitrogenous substances and amino acids necessary to grow anaerobic bacteria. Yeast extract provides B-complex vitamins and serves as a growth enhancer. Hemin, vitamin K and sheep blood stimulate the growth of anaerobes. Sodium chloride is a source of essential electrolytes and maintains osmotic equilibrium. Paromomycin and vancomycin facilitate the recovery of fastidious, obligately anaerobic non-spore-forming gram-negative bacilli from mixed populations by inhibiting facultative and aerobic gram-negative rods2.
