Thermo Scientific™ Blood Agar with Ampicillin (with 5% Sheep Blood)
Description
Selectively isolate Aeromonas species from clinical specimens with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Blood Agar with Amipicillin. The addition of 5% sheep blood enriches the medium by providing the essential growth factors and provides for direct detection of hemolysis and oxidase. Ampicillin is a selective agent inhibitory to normal flora.
The genus Aeromonas contains ferementative, oxidase positive, Gram-negative bacilli which are common inhabitants of aquatic ecosystem worldwide. When it is considered an uncommon pathogen, gastroenteritis caused by Aeromonas spp. is an increasingly recognised clinical entity, reported to occur on a global basis.
Use Blood Agar with Ampicillin (with 5% Sheep Blood) for selective isolation of Aeromonas species from clinical specimens.
- Selective: ampicillin is selective for Aeromonas species.
- Easy-to-read: Aeromonas species appear as gray and moist colonies with or without hemolyisis and consistently oxidase positive
- Ready-to-use: convenience of prepared media.
