Selectively cultivate and isolate pathogenic fungi with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ SABHI™ Agar w/Chloramphenicol. In 1967, Gorman developed SABHI Agar by combining Sabouraud Dextrose Agar and Brain Heart Infusion Agar. This combined formulation increased recovery of pathogenic fungi1. Selectivity can be achieved by the addition of various antibiotics. Sabouraud Dextrose Agar helps in the cultivation of dermatophytes and Brain Heart Infusion Agar helps to isolate fungi from clinical specimens2.
SABHI Agar w/Chloramphenicol is a solid medium that is used to cultivate and selectively isolate pathogenic fungi.
This medium is made selective by adding chloramphenicol that inhibits a range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

SABHI Agar w/Chloramphenicol contains dextrose, casein peptone, meat peptone, brain heart infusion solids, sodium chloride, disodium phosphate, agar, demineralized water and chloramphenicol antibiotic. Dextrose serves as the carbohydrate source. Sheep blood provide essential growth factors for fastidious fungi. Chloramphenicol inhibit gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
