Thayer Martin Agar is a selective medium containing antibiotics to isolate Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis, while suppressing commensal microbial flora present in the anal canal, vagina, pharynx and other sites1

  • Nystatin inhibits Candida albicans
  • Colistin inhibits most gram-negative microorganisms, including Pseudomonas spp.
  • Vancomycin inhibits gram-positive cocci
  • Trimethoprim suppresses swarming of Proteus spp.
