RT1.D is a gene located within the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) region of the rat genome, specifically part of the RT1 complex. RT1.D, along with its counterpart RT1.B, comprises class II MHC genes, which are key players in the adaptive immune response. These genes encode for proteins that present extracellularly derived peptides to helper T cells (CD4+ T cells), facilitating the activation and regulation of immune responses. The RT1.D gene product is analogous to human HLA-DR and mouse I-A/I-E molecules, playing an essential role in antigen presentation and immune recognition. RT1.D genes are highly polymorphic, which influences susceptibility to various diseases and are often utilized in studies involving autoimmune diseases, immune response, and transplantation immunology.Specifications
