Description

Description

Specificity: This antibody binds the amino acids 318-510 in the S1 domain of the SARS-CoV Spike protein as well as SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Spike protein. The antibody also binds to P462L-substituted S318-510 fragments of the SARS spike protein. The binding epitope is only accessible in the open confromation of the spike protein.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus, responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, has a spike protein composed of two subunits, S1 and S2. The S1 subunit binds to the human ACE2 receptor, initiating the virus's entry into the cell and recognizing the host cell for the fusion process. The SARS spike protein S1, responsible for binding to the ACE2 receptor during the 2002-2003 SARS outbreak, shares a high degree of similarity with the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein S1, but there are differences in their amino acid sequence that may affect their binding affinity to the ACE2 receptor. Both spike proteins have a trimeric structure, with each subunit consisting of two domains, the N-terminal domain and the receptor-binding domain. The RBD is the part of the S1 subunit that binds to the ACE2 receptor, while the NTD is involved in the recognition of other host factors.
