Description
Staphylococcus aureus PBP2a (Methicillin-resistant) Monoclonal Antibody for ICC/IF
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a type of bacteria that is resistant to the antibiotic methicillin. The resistance is due to the presence of a protein called penicillin-binding protein 2a (PBP2a), which is encoded by the mecA gene. PBP2a has a low affinity for methicillin and other beta-lactam antibiotics, which allows the bacteria to survive and multiply in the presence of these drugs. A target description for PBP2a would be a transpeptidase enzyme that is responsible for the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall and is a key factor in the resistance of MRSA to beta-lactam antibiotics.
