CAS: 1317-80-2 | O2Ti | 79.87 g/mol

Titanium(IV) oxide is used in paints, plastics, paper, and foods. It is used as a UV-resistant material. It shows useful applications in earth sciences. It is also useful in quantitative provenance studies. It is also useful for the photocatalytic applications. It is also useful in high temperature superconducting resonators. It is also used as a material in the memristor, a new electronic circuit element. It can be used for solar energy conversion based on dye, to cleave protein that contains the amino acid proline polymer, quantum dot sensitized nanocrystalline TiO2 solar cells using conjugated polymers as solid electrolytes.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.

What is the difference between Titanium (IV) oxide, rutile and Titanium (IV) oxide, anatase?

Rutile and anatase are polymorphs of TiO2, which are both naturally occurring. Rutile is a source for titanium smelting and is used in the semiconductor industry to produce dye-based solar cells (Grätzel cells). Anatase shows a high photocatalytic activity, which limits the usability as a pigment in polymers, but also opens certain applications as a catalyst. Anatase has a higher photocatalytic activity than rutile but is thermodynamically less stable.
