Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is a form of vitamin D, a fat-soluble hormone found in food sources
Vitamin D is important for calcium and phosphorus homeostasis, and can play a role in many biological processes including cell growth
Vitamin D2 has a lower binding affinity than Vitamin D3 for vitamin D binding protein
Applications
Research studies show that Vitamin D2 treatment in rats inhibits bladder tumor promotion
Studies show that the treatment of lung carcinoma cells with vitamin D2 in vitro resulted in increased ACE2 protein levels
Vitamin D2 has been seen to interfere with prion protein oligomerization in vitro
