Morphiceptin is a potent and specific agonist for morphine (μ) receptors. It is a synthetic peptide, an amide of a fragment of the milk protein β-casein. Morphiceptin exhibits morphinelike activities and shows high specificity for morphine (μ) receptors, but not for Enkephalin receptors. It potently inhibits the binding of [3H]dihydromorphine, 125I-labeled FK33824, and [3H]naloxone to rat brain membrane preparations with an IC50 of about 20 nM.
