3-(3-Hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid (3HPPA) promotes endothelium-dependent nitric oxide (NO) release and activates endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS). It mediates vascular smooth muscle relaxation, enhances endothelial cell NO synthesis, and induces vasodilation, reducing peripheral vascular resistance. It can dose-dependently reduce blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) without affecting cardiac contractility or heart rate. It offers antihypertensive and vascular protective effects, useful in preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases.
