Cediranib maleate is a highly potent, orally available VEGFR inhibitor. It inhibits VEGF-stimulated proliferation and KDR phosphorylation, reducing vessel area, length, and branching. It ablates experimental angiogenesis and inhibits endochondral ossification and corpora luteal development. It also inhibits the growth of established human tumor xenografts in athymic mice, showing a reduction in microvessel density within tumors.
