"Silica XHL" is a standard grade Silica 60 with a surface area of 500 m2/g, mean pore size of 60A, specific pore volume of 0.75 ml/g, and particle size of 5-17um. The TLC plates contain UV254 fluorescent indicator. This analytical extra hard layer is bound to a glass support. It has a thickness of 250um and dimensions of 20x20cm. There are 25 plates per pack. The layer has an outstanding hardness and is abrasion resistant due to an optimized binder system. The plate can be easily labeled with a lead pencil for clear identification. There is an increased separation efficiency due to an optimized particle size distribution. The UV254 fluorescent indicator has an increased brilliance and a low-noise background which results in a high suitability for trace analyses.

Preparative TLC plates have adsorbent layers thicker than the 250 micron layers normally used for analytical separations. Thus, preparative plates can be used for separation of larger quantities of materials. The loading capacity for a given degree of sample component resolution increases roughly as the square root of the increased adsorbent layer thickness. In preparative TLC, materials to be separated are often applied as long streaks rather than spots. Sorbtech's packing technique & Premium Rf's narrow particle distribution results in a uniform packed bed. The benefits are no channeling, higher resolution, decrease in backpressure, faster flow, and faster run time. Additionally, the small pore volume allows for more silica gel per column volume leading to greater loadability and less solvent use. Finally, the high purity silica gel (minimal surface metals) reduces mixed-mode interactions (no peak tailing or resolution loss). The polypropylene cartridge has standard luer-lock end fittings and is spin-welded (leak-free) allowing higher pressures up to 400 psi. The cartridges are compatible with all flash chromatography systems.
