Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Available with Vigreux indentations in uptake tube to further increase the performance of the head. NOTE: The 14/20 size accepts a 1” immersion 7/12 or 10/18 thermometer, while the 24/40 and 29/42 sizes accept a 2” immersion, 10/30 thermometer.

All sizes have an I.D. of approximately 10mm.

Condenser, Concentrator, 340mm, 29/42 Joint, 200mm Inner Tube Height. Vapors rise to the top of inner tube then travel downward and condense in this highly efficient concentrator. Condensate drains through the side tube which has a standard taper inner joint the same size as the lower inner uptake joint. Serrated hose connection for connecting to vacuum source. Hose connections for both the cooling jacket and vacuum source have an O.D. of 10mm. Available with detachable hose connections on a special order basis.

Heavy wall pressure vessels have an internal thread for use with PTFE bushings as pressure seals. The design allows hand tightening/loosening for easy access into the vessel. O-ring is positioned on the bushing above the thread for improved sealing. Supplied complete with vessel, PTFE bushing & Viton o-ring. Optional Perfluoro o-ring has the chemical resistance & service temperature range similar to Kalrez 4079. Distilling Receiver, 10mL, Moisture Test, Dean-Stark, 24/40 Joint Size, Approx. 250mm Height x 90mm Width. Dean-Stark receiver used for determining the water content of various materials. Can be used with ASTM Method D-95 along with similar ASTM methods. The 10mL size has subdivisions of 0.1 from 0 to 2mL, and 0.2 from 2 to 10mL. The 25mL size has subdivisions of 0.1 from 0 to 2mL and 0.2 from 2 to 25mL.

The inner drip tip joint on the condenser and inner joint on the uptake tube are the same size.
