Presence Absence Broth is used for the detection of coliform bacteria in water treatment plants or distribution systems using the presence-absence coliform test in a laboratory setting. Presence Absence Broth is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. The Presence Absence (PA) test is a presumptive detection for coliforms in water. The test is a simple modification of the multiple-tube procedure. One 100 mL test sample is inoculated into a single culture bottle to obtain qualitative information on the presence or absence of coliforms, through the presence or absence of lactose fermentation. Conditional Reprogramming (CR) Medium is optimized to use with 3T3-J2 Irradiated Feeder Cells (Catalog #100-0353) to expand epithelial cells without genetic modification. Mature epithelial cells have been shown to restore tissue-specific progenitor phenotype that enables proliferation in the presence of CR Medium (Liu X et al. 2012; Liu X et al. 2017). This conditional proliferative capability is deactivated once the medium is removed from the cells (Liu X et al. 2012; Liu X et al. 2017). CR Medium is suitable to propagate primary epithelial cells from healthy or tumor tissues (airway, retina, prostate, breast, intestine, pancreas, liver biliary duct, etc.; Liu X et al. 2012; Liu X et al. 2017; Suprynowicz FA et al.). This product is free of antibiotics and intended for Research Use Only. CR Medium must be supplemented with cholera toxin prior to use.

SIM Medium is used for the differentiation of microorganisms on the basis of hydrogen sulfide production, indole production, and motility in a laboratory setting. SIM Medium is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Semisolid media have been used extensively in the determination of bacterial motility. The production of hydrogen sulfide, indole formation, and motility are useful diagnostic tests in the identification of Enterobacteriaceae, especially Salmonella spp. and Shigella spp. In 1940, Sulkin and Willett demonstrated motility, hydrogen sulfide production, and carbohydrate fermentation by members of Salmonella and Shigella groups. They called attention to the “brush-like growth” or motility of the typhoid organisms. Tryptose was developed while studying growth requirements of Brucella spp. Huddleson found Tryptose media to be equal or superior to meat infusion media, providing uniformity for the cultivation and differentiation of fastidious organisms including Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Streptococcus milleri and Brucella spp.. Casman reported that a medium consisting of 2% Tryptose, along with other media ingredients, equaled fresh beef infusion base with respect to organism growth. Tryptose is recommended in broth and agar formulations, and when used in media containing blood to permit hemolytic reactions. Modified Semi-Solid Rappaport-Vassiliadis (MSRV) Agar is used with Novobiocin for the rapid detection of motile Salmonella spp. and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. MSRV was developed in 1986 by De Smedt, Bolderdijk and Rappold as a rapid means of Salmonella detection. The medium, based upon Rappaport Vassiliadis broth, is inoculated directly from the preenrichment medium, in the center of the plate. Motile organisms spread from the center in the semi-solid agar, but non-salmonellas are inhibited by the selective agents.
