Histones are basic nuclear proteins that are responsible for the nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. This structure consists of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a nucleosome, an octamer composed of pairs of each of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4). The chromatin fiber is further compacted through the interaction of a linker histone, H1, with the DNA between the nucleosomes to form higher order chromatin structures. This gene is intronless and encodes a replication-dependent histone that is a member of the histone H3 family. Transcripts from this gene lack polyA tails, instead, they contain a palindromic termination element. This gene is found in the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6p22-p21.3.

Recombinant SUMOstar Protease 1 specifically recognizes and cleaves the SUMOstar tag from recombinant fusion proteins made with SUMOstar expression systems (Cat.#s: 1100A, 1106, 1100K, 1101, 2100, 2101, 2160, 2161, 3100, 3101, 7110, 7111, 7120, 7121). Unlike thrombin, EK, or TEV proteases, which recognize short, linear sequences, SUMOstar Protease 1 recognizes the tertiary structure of SUMOstar. As a result, SUMOstar Protease 1 will not cleave within the protein of interest. SUMOstar Protease 1 will not cleave SUMO-tags from proteins expressed with the SUMOpro or SUMOpro3 systems. To cleave the SUMOpro tag (orginial yeast SUMO tag), please use SUMO Protease 1 and to cleave SUMOpro3 tag please use SUMO Protease 2. This product contains 5000 units of SUMOstar Protease, where 1 U will cleave >90 µg of SUMOstar-GFP in 1 hour at 37C
