Scissors
Hand-held instruments designed to cut thin materials, such as paper and cloth, consisting of two blades laid one on top of the other; products may be intended for use in specific applications such as cutting tissue or bone, dissections, etc.
Scissors are used in the laboratory to cut various materials. Some are for general use and others are designed specifically for tissue dissection or surgery.
Scissors are hand-operated tools that consist of a pair of metal blades with handles. The blades pivot to bring the sharpened edges in contact with each other, an action that cuts the material placed between the blades.
Scissors are selected based on specific features:
- Size or length: Blade length is key, as is the overall length of the scissors
- Shank-to-blade ratio: The length of the handles compared to the length of the cutting blade; the ratio helps determine the force needed to product a cut
- Type of handles: Straight, offset
- Material: Stainless steel is typically used for surgical scissors; some surgical scissors also have tungsten carbide cutting surfaces for hardness and durability
- Tips: Blade ends may be pointed, semi-blunt, or blunt (rounded)
- Blade shape: Straight, curved, or angled (bent); curved or angled blades may provide better access to areas with limited space

Our vannas scissors are specialized spring scissors designed for precision cutting and often used by scientific researchers. They are named after the Swedish scientist Gunnar Vannas who invented them in the 1940s. Compared with other spring scissors, vannas scissors are distinguished by their delicate, thin, sharp tips. The slender, pointed tips allows for precise cutting with minimal damage to surrounding tissues. Manufactured with surgical grade stainless steel, these scissors are durable and resistant to corrosion.

World Precision Instrument McPherson-Vannas Spring Scissors, 7cm, Straight, 3mm Blades
McPherson-Vannas scissors are a fine pair of surgical scissors commonly used in ophthalmic procedures, specifically for delicate dissection and excision of ocular tissues. They may also be used in ophthalmic surgeries for cataract removal, glaucoma, and corneal transplantation. Other surgical specialties, like neurosurgery, plastic surgery, and ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery, may use McPherson-Vannas spring scissors for delicate dissection and cutting of tissues. These scissors have fine, sharp blades that are either curved or straight. These short, fine blades allow for precise cuts of delicate structures. Withe the spring handle, they are designed for excellent control and visibility during surgery, while minimizing trauma to surrounding tissues. The spring handles offer a stable grip for the surgeon, and they can also be used by either left- or right-handed operators.

World Precision Instrument Lister Bandage Scissors, 15 cm
Lister Bandage Scissors, also called Lister scissors or Lister dressing scissors, are a pair of surgical scissors named after British surgeon Joseph Lister. They are designed for cutting and removing dressings, bandages, and medical materials without hurting the patient. Lister scissors have blunt and angled tips. The blunt tip prevents accidental injury or puncturing of the patient's skin while cutting close to the body. The angled design lets you easily insert the scissors under bandages. The angled blade also gives you better visibility and improved access to the dressing, especially in tight or confined spaces. The cutting blade is blunt. These surgical scissors are primarily used for removing dressings, bandages, or gauze. This is common in wound care, postoperative care, and first aid. The Lister Bandage Scissors are available in a variety of sizes from 8.75 cm (3.5") to 15 cm (6").

World Precision Instrument Spring Scissors, 12cm, Straight, Extra fine tips
Spring scissors are a common type of surgical scissor that have a spring action for quick, clean cuts in microsurgery or dissection of delicate tissues. These spring scissors have long (12mm) extra fine blades which gives you greater control in confined spaces. These spring scissors have small, sharp, pointed tips. While they are suitable for use by both left- and right-handed surgeons, they are often preferred by left-handed surgeons. Designed with a symmetrical handle, they are comfortable for ambidextrous use. Left-handed surgeons can use them without any discomfort or awkwardness, unlike some other surgical instruments designed specifically for right-handed use. Left-handed surgeons may find it easier to maneuver the scissors with their left hand, which is typically more dexterous when it comes to fine motor skills. Spring scissors have an ergonomic design for a natural feel with intuitive control.

World Precision Instrument Spring Scissors, 10.5cm, Curved, 8mm Blades
Spring scissors are fine surgical instruments for making small, precision cuts. They are 10.5cm long, and fit comfortably into your hand. The spring mechanism that allows for smooth, precise cutting action, which reduces the risk of tissue damage or trauma. Choose either straight or curved for the 8mm blade. The curved surgical scissors are often used in ophthalmology to make precise incisions in the cornea or delicate tissues. The curved tip gives greater visibility at the tip of the scissors. The straight blades are more often used in microdissection, microsurgery or plastic surgery. The spring handled surgical scissors are preferred by left-handed surgeons, because they can be used ambidextrously. This gives the left-handed surgeon a more natural cutting action, which means the surgeon has greater control of the tip and the cutting movement.
