PAN-Biotech Phytohemagglutinin-L (PHA-L), 6 x 5 ml (1.2 mg protein/flask), lyophilized. DESCRIPTION: PHA-L purified from Phaseolus vulgaris (red kidney bean). The lectin recognizes and binds specifically to terminal galactose, N-acetylglucosamine and mannose residues of complex glycans on mammalian glycoproteins. PHA-L is also known as leucoagglutinin and has high mitogenic and leucoagglutinating activity, but low erythroagglutinating activity. PHA-L does not agglutinate human erythrocytes at concentrations of 250 µg/mL or less, and is non-specific for blood groups. PHA-L lectin is supplied as a white lyophilized powder from a buffer containing from 10mM NH4HCO3. APPLICATION: Plant lectin suitable for stimulating lymphocyte proliferation and differentiation. Reconstitute one vial aseptically with 5 ml sterile pure water. Apply 1 ml of reconstituted solution to 100 ml cell culture medium. CAS REGISTRY NO.: 9008-97-3. STERILE: Yes. Although the specificity of Maackia amurensis lectin II (MAL II) is not well defined, it appears to bind only carbohydrate structures that contain sialic acid. Unlike Sambucus nigra lectin (SNA), which prefers structures with (α-2,6) linked sialic acid, MAL II binds sialic acid in an (α-2,3) linkage. Tissue staining patterns are also different among MAL I, SNA, and MAL II.
