HLA-DR beta refers to the beta chain of the HLA-DR protein complex, which is a member of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II molecule. The HLA-DR beta chain is encoded by the HLA-DRB gene. HLA-DR beta is primarily on the surface of antigen-presenting cells, including dendritic cells, macrophages, and B cells. These cells play a crucial role in the immune system by capturing, processing, and presenting antigens to T cells for immune recognition. HLA-DR beta is a critical component of the immune system, facilitating the recognition and response to extracellular antigens. Its function in presenting antigenic peptides to CD4+ T cells plays a vital role in the activation of adaptive immune responses. HLA-DR beta consists of an extracellular domain, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tail. The extracellular domain contains the peptide-binding groove, which interacts with antigenic peptides. The transmembrane domain anchors the HLA-DR beta chain to the cell membrane, while the cytoplasmic tail is involved in intracellular signaling events. HLA and MHC antibodies play a significant role in Immunopeptidomics, facilitating the identification and characterization of neoantigens through high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem Mass Spectrometry.
