Description
Cultivate fastidious and nonfastidious organisms using Columbia Broth Base.
Cultivate fastidious and nonfastidious organisms using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Columbia Broth Base (Dehydrated). In 1969, Morello and Ellner described the use of Columbia Broth for the recovery of microorganisms from blood cultures1. The formulation was based on Ellner's Columbia Blood Agar Base with increased cysteine to improve isolation of bacteria from blood specimens2. This medium provided superior recovery rates of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, viridans streptococci and enterococci from blood cultures as compared to the results obtained using tryptic soy broth.
