VDAC/Porin Polyclonal Antibody, Rockland™

Goat Polyclonal Antibody
Supplier: Rockland Immunochemicals 600101HB2

Description
Store vial at -20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use. Anti-VDAC/Porin Antibody is directed against human VDAC1/Porin1 protein. A BLAST analysis was used to suggest that this antibody would react with VDAC1/Porin1 including mouse, rat, bovine, pig, and rabbit sources based on 100% homology for the immunogen sequence. Such broad reactivity makes this antibody useful as an excellent loading control.
Voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) proteins are abundant, pore-forming proteins belonging to the eukaryotic mitochondrial porins. It was discovered in the mitochondrial outer membrane. It also is expressed in the plasma membrane. At least three different VDAC genes have been identified in vertebrates. VDAC proteins are known to play an essential role in cellular metabolism and in the early stages of apoptosis. For example, VDAC constitutes a major pathway by which metabolites such as ADP/ATP, succinate and citrate are exchanged between the cytosol and mitochondria. And VDAC1 in the plasma membrane establishes a novel level of apoptosis regulation putatively via its redox activity.Specifications
