Genistin, an isoflavone from the phytoestrogen family, is a potent anti-adipogenic and anti-lipogenic agent. It attenuates cellular growth and promotes apoptotic cell death in breast cancer cells by modulating the ERalpha signaling pathway. It also effectively down-modulates ER nuclear translocation and DNA binding activity, inducing apoptosis and suppressing oncogenic markers in MCF-7 cells.
