Gold-coated microscope slides are made from aluminosilicate glass (1-inch x 3 inch x 0.7 mm) coated with a film of gold (100-nm thick) via e-beam evaporation. A 2.5 nm film of titanium is used as an adhesion layer between the gold film and the glass. Purity of gold is 99.999%. Package contains 5 gold-coated microscope slides. Gold-coated microscope slides are ideal as electrodes for potentiometry and biosensing, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy or ellipsometry. Pristine gold can be readily functionalized with thiol-terminated self-assembled monolayers.

Do not store slides and solvents together as the slide surface can turn hydrophobic. If the temperature is constantly warming and cooling, condensation may occur, which can cause sticking of the slides. We also recommend, when shipping to a customer, instruct them to allow the slides to reach room temperature prior to opening the cartons and using them. Since soda lime glass is subject to an aging process, we further recommend continuously rotating stock so the oldest slides are always used first.
