Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Glass beads may be added to the absorber tube to enhance the gas mixing.

Condensate drains through the side tube which has a standard taper inner joint the same size as the lower inner uptake joint. Serrated hose connection for connecting to vacuum source. Hose connections for both the cooling jacket and vacuum source have an O.D. of 10mm. Available with detachable hose connections on a special order basis.

Used between the vapor tube and evaporation flask on a rotary evaporator to prevent contents of the flask from being drawn into the condenser in the event of “bumping.” Traps have a 24/40 top outer joint and the listed size of lower inner joint.

Serrated hose connections have an O.D. of 13mm at the smallest serration and 16mm at the largest serration.

Distilling Adapter, Double, 10° Angled Side Neck, 24/40 Joint, 6mm PTFE Stopcock, 1/2" Swagelok. Adapter is designed for use with flasks or reaction vessel lids that have a 10° angled side neck. Adapter has a lower inner joint and two top outer joints. Lower stopcock is a 6mm PTFE stopcock with a 1/2” or 3/4” OD distillate takeoff for use with a compression fitting and TFE tubing. PLEASE NOTE: ADAPTER CAN BE USED WITH COMPOUND ANGLED SIDE NECKS.

Ace Glass, Inc. Congealing temperature distillation apparatus
ACE congealing temperature distillation apparatus, which is similar to that described in U.S. Pharmacopeia, 1995, page 1780. The ACE apparatus is supplied with Ace-Threds in place of rubber stoppers, where practical. A #50 thread at center holds a test tube with a #25 bushing, and the open-top test tube utilizes a rubber stopper to secure a thermometer and wire stirrer. The apparatus has a #7 Ace-Thred thermometer port on one side, and a 22mm I.D. opening on the other side to access the 125mm O.D. x 150mm high cylinder. Applicable to substances that melt down between -20 to 150 degrees C.
