Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Distilling Column, 29/42 Joint, 150mm, Vigreux. Vigreux style column with indentations that run the entire length of the column for improved vapor-liquid contact. Column length refers to the effective length, measured from the lowest to highest indent in the column. Column has a top outer and lower inner standard taper joint.

Distilling Head, 1000mL, Solvent, Modified, 24/40 Inner Joint On Take-Off. Designed to maintain distilled solvents in an inert atmosphere. Top of main vapor tube is open and an additional vapor tube has been added to decrease risk of pressure buildup. Upper sampling port has a 4mm PTFE stopcock with a 14/20 outer joint for use with CG-3022 septa. Lower drain is centered to allow total drainage of storage head. Double oblique 2mm bore PTFE stopcock on the 250 through 1000mL sizes allows for removal of distilled solvent or return to flask. The 250mL size has a 4mm double oblique stopcock. Both the uptake tube and top outer joints are 24/40, while the take-off tube is supplied with a 24/40 inner joint.**Design suggested by Dr. A.K. Distilling Receiver, 10mL, Moisture Test, Dean-Stark, 14/20 Joint Size, Approx. 250mm Height x 80mm Width. Dean-Stark receiver used for determining the water content of various materials. Can be used with ASTM Method D-95 along with similar ASTM methods. The 10mL size has subdivisions of 0.1 from 0 to 2mL, and 0.2 from 2 to 10mL. The 25mL size has subdivisions of 0.1 from 0 to 2mL and 0.2 from 2 to 25mL.

Replacement vapor (steam) tube adapter for Bchi R-200/205 rotary evaporators. Adapters have a 50mm OD top flange with a tapered interior to fit the Bchi sealing ring. Lower portion of the adapter has the listed standard taper inner joint. Each tube is supplied complete with corresponding size Keck clip.NOTE: ITEMS WILL REPLACE THE BUCHI PART NUMBERS AS LISTED. The sidearm is sealed at a height for use with a 1” immersion thermometer. The 24/40 and 29/42 sizes are made to accept a 10/30, 3” immersion thermometer. The inner drip tip joint on the condenser and inner joint on the uptake tube are the same size.
