Distillation Labware

Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Vacuum Trap, Dual Chamber, Complete. Dual chamber vacuum trap affords increased condensing capacity in a much shorter length. The dry ice cold fingers have 55/50 inner joints that fit into the outer joints on the main trap body and have a capacity of approx. 300mL each. Lower stopcock is a PTFE 4mm ¿T¿-bore which permits draining condensate chambers one at a time. Serrated connections at the top of the condensate chambers have an O.D. of 10mm. Complete trap assembly is approx. 545mm in height x 220mm wide.

Distilling Receiver, 10mL, Moisture Test, Barrett, 14/20 Joint Size, 2mm Glass Stopcock, Approx. 190mm Height x 65mm Width. Barrett style distilling receiver used to determine the water content in petroleum or bituminous material. Receiver is made according to ASTM specifications, with the addition of the top outer standard taper joint and lower stopcock. The 2mL has sub-divisions of 0.02mL; the 5ml has subdivisions of 0.20mL; 10ml has subdivisions of 0.1mL; the 20mL has subdivisions of 0.2 from 0 to 3mL and 0.5 from 3 to 20mL. Available with glass or PTFE stopcocks.

Chemglass Life Sciences Solvent Distillation Apparatus Complete, Airfree, Schlenk
Solvent Distillation Apparatus Complete, Airfree, Schlenk. Similar in design to AF0720 but without delivery adapter. Lower 3-way valve has been replaced with a single 0-4mm Chem-Vac™ Chem-Cap valve for draining distillate back into the flask. The uptake tube has one row of vigreux indentations, while the 14/20 top outer joint has been eliminated. Temperature can be measured by using a 2-neck flask with a thermocouple or thermometer adapter. The delivery tube has two 2mm PTFE straight bore stopcocks that can be operated in a way to purge the receiving vessel with inert gas. Connections are made of polypropylene and provide a safe and easy way of connecting and disconnecting flexible tubing to the condenser. Supplied complete with two GL open top screw caps and two straight polypropylene hose connections. Condensing area is the same as CG-1217.

Harvest Tube, M10, for 5L Bio Reactors. Harvest tubes mount into the outer M10 or M27 thread on the standard head plate. The design has the tapered tip within 2mm of the bottom of the bio reaction vessel to allow complete harvesting of all cells. The 15 Liter size has an M27 thread with 1/2” tubing for quicker harvest.
